It’s not the most fun topic, you might say. But we believe that it is always relevant. Especially since not everyone knows how burial in a foreign country goes, how much it costs, and what you need to be prepared for.
Cost of burial services
The minimum set of necessary services: coffin, transfer, room to say goodbye to the deceased, etc. The average cost is 650 euros, but in the case of burial services, the difference in price from one city to another is very large. The highest prices will certainly be in Madrid or Barcelona, the big cities.
The average cost of a “standard” funeral in Spain without cremation, including the cost of the coffin, transportation and preparation of the deceased, flowers, administrative procedures, headstone, funeral home services, religious ceremony in the cemetery, is 3500 euros and by cremation of the body 3100 euros.
Funeral Insurance
Death insurance is one of the most sought after in Spain. Most people who died here (about 63%) had funeral insurance, which covers funeral expenses. This type of insurance is quite comfortable for relatives, even though insurance companies do not allow free choice of funeral home. In fact, in every third case, relatives were forced to use the funeral home chosen by the insurance. However, judging by the statistics, more than 80% of those surveyed think funeral insurance is a good idea.
Cost of insurance
Buy such insurance from any insurance company, it is not much different from any other insurance, like car or apartment insurance. Its price varies from 30 to 60 euros per year depending on the company. We recommend Sabadell, this type of insurance is called “Seguro de decesos”
Public and private funeral homes
There are generally no significant differences between public and private funeral homes. Quality, price, and satisfaction are similar.
As for choosing a cemetery, there are no problems with this in Spain. They are all tidy, well-maintained and bright. On them you can often find whole crypts or memorable family houses. In Spain it is customary to visit ancestors and deceased relatives, so they want to keep the burial place in pristine condition as long as possible.
The cemeteries in Spain are beautiful, but we wish our clients a very long and happy life in Spain or beyond!
